Australia Reinforces Support for Cambodia’s Clean Water Initiatives

Phnom Penh, April 18, 2024 – The Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cambodia’s national goal of universal clean water access by 2030, according to a recent news release.

The embassy highlighted its enthusiasm for enhancing collaboration with other development partners to aid the Cambodian government in achieving this essential objective. “Australia is eager to work more closely with various stakeholders to ensure that all Cambodians have access to clean water by the targeted year of 2030,” stated the embassy.

The first donor coordination group meeting on clean water in Cambodia was recently hosted by Australia. This pivotal gathering united development partners to exchange updates, address challenges, and enhance cooperative efforts aimed at improving clean water access throughout the nation.

Australia’s robust involvement in the clean water sector has already facilitated access to clean piped water for over a million Cambodians. The embassy further elaborated on its ongoing initiatives, mentioning the Water Development Fund established under CAPRED, Australia’s flagship economic development program. This fund serves as a long-term financing mechanism designed to expedite and expand the provision of clean water services across Cambodia.
